Description
John Sebastian’s harmonica bark in Roadhouse Blues tells you straight away The Doors are back in a room, playing for keeps. Morrison Hotel is the band’s barroom pivot, less incense, more grit. Lonnie Mack’s bass under that opening riff has real sway, and Densmore’s shuffle feels lived-in. Peace Frog snaps with clipped funk, Morrison drawing a breath before “Blood in the streets” like he’s about to swing a door open. Then Waiting for the Sun glides in, Manzarek’s keys softening the edges without losing the pulse.
This LP pressing gives the music what it needs: the low end sits deeper and there’s more space around the organ and guitars, so the band’s push-and-pull is easier to follow. It belongs next to late-‘60s blues-rock like The Rolling Stones circa Let It Bleed, the American counterpoint with darker corners. A Melbourne staple for anyone building a classic rock shelf that favours groove over gloss.
If you’d rather order online, you can buy The Doors records online with us.
From the swaggering opener to the swampy close on Maggie M’Gill, Morrison Hotel plays like a tight night set, no wasted motion, just four players leaning into the room and letting it breathe.
