Description
The stick-on-snare rattle before the solo in Red House tells you the room’s alive. The Jimi Hendrix Experience — Los Angeles Forum • April 26, 1969 (2LP) bottles a peak-night power trio: Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell, Noel Redding, stretching out in front of a roaring arena. Tax Free sprawls with sly dynamic swells and those rolling tom flurries, while the encore Voodoo Child (Slight Return) burns hot without losing shape.
As a 2LP, this cut finally breathes. Low end sits deeper, and imaging steadies the trio in the hall, so Mitchell’s cymbals don’t smear across Jimi’s wah. You hear the band talk to each other in real time rather than fight the old bootleg fog.
File it beside Cream’s live blowouts, but expect more elastic time and sharper harmonic edges. It’s a document as much as a thrill ride, showing how Hendrix could pivot from taut riffs to open-ended conversation in a bar or two. Melbourne collections with a soft spot for late-’60s live fireworks should make space for this.
If you’d rather order online, you can buy Jimi Hendrix records online with us. The jacket notes and period photos round out the story without getting in the way of the music.
For fans who want the Forum as it sounded that night, this is the keeper pressing.
Shop online or dig for it in our Preston store while stock lasts.
