Description

Alan Myers’ clockwork snare is the quiet hero of so many cuts on this 2LP survey. Devo - 50 Years Of De-Evolution (1973–2023) (2LP) corrals the Akron collective’s ruthless wit and precision into a punchy career map. From the call-and-response spike of Jocko Homo to the clipped hi-hat snap of Whip It, and the octave-stab riff in Girl U Want, they refine chaos into geometry. Beautiful World still lands like a grin that curdles halfway through.

Cut across two discs, the low end sits deeper and imaging feels wider, which helps those cold synths and mutant surf guitars breathe. Sequencing is thoughtful, so early basement urgency rubs against their MTV-era sheen without whiplash. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Devo records online with us. File it next to Talking Heads in your Melbourne new wave corner, only Devo aim their satire straighter and their rhythms tighter.

A half-century on, the concept holds, the tunes still jab, and this set makes the case with no dead weight. Buy Devo records online today or visit us in Preston to grab a copy.
