Description
The rasping low brass tucked beneath the strings in Ode to Harrison gives the game away before a word is spoken. Michael Giacchino’s Star Trek Into Darkness finds the sweet spot between classic Trek nobility and Abrams-era velocity, and this 3LP red/blue/yellow set lets it breathe. London Calling surges with urgent ostinatos and a mournful horn line that nods to the franchise’s heritage without feeling nostalgic. Ship to Ship tightens into needlepoint strings and snapping percussion, then releases into a brassy rush that feels properly colossal.
Spread across three sides per colour, the cues finally have space, and the low end sits deeper, so kettledrums and contrabass hit with satisfying weight. The colour-coded discs are a neat Starfleet wink, and the package makes more sense as an album than the old single-disc program. It files neatly next to Jerry Goldsmith on your shelf while standing as Giacchino’s own, especially in the way he threads Courage’s fanfare into modern action writing.
If you’d rather order online, you can buy Michael Giacchino records online with us. For Melbourne collectors, this is the Trek score to put on when you want cinematic sweep without losing orchestral detail.
