Description
A black-and-white town quietly blushing into colour.
Randy Newman’s Pleasantville (Original Motion Picture Score) catches that shift with chamber warmth and sly Americana. The first rainfall cue tiptoes in on clarinet before the strings widen; the courtroom climax swells to a noble theme without schmaltz. I love the small hesitation in the low brass during the basketball sequence, a wink that says the façade is cracking. This white & blue swirl pressing gives the orchestra more space, and imaging feels more layered.
File it beside Thomas Newman’s 90s suburban works, but expect Randy’s wry harmonic turns and a gentler, more old-Hollywood lilt. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Randy Newman records online with us. Perfect for late evening tidying or a quiet Sunday when you want something melodic but not cloying. Newman’s cues breathe, never fussed, and the melodies linger after side two fades.
Fans of film music will notice how he threads optimism through restraint, especially in the scenes where colour first creeps in and when Betty finds herself in the mirror. It’s one of those scores that rewards attentive ears as much as background play.
