Description
The snare rush in Nine Inch Nails’ The Perfect Drug still hits like whiplash. Various - Lost Highway (2LP) gathers David Lynch’s 1997 under-the-neon mood, produced and sequenced by Trent Reznor, into a set that still feels cohesive and unsettling. Bowie’s I’m Deranged (Edit) opens the door with that jittery vocal glide, then Smashing Pumpkins’ Eye slides in with rubbery synth bass and a narcotic pulse. It’s a rare soundtrack where the instrumentals matter as much, and they do here. This 2LP pressing gives the music breathing room; low end sits deeper and imaging tightens up. You notice it in the eerie space around Angelo Badalamenti’s cues. Filed next to your mid-90s Nine Inch Nails shelf, it makes perfect sense. We’ve spun multiple copies in Preston and it stays engaging front to back, not just the singles. Prefer a cart? You can buy Lost Highway records online with us. Credit to Reznor’s sequencing, the flow from Bowie to Pumpkins to the darker cues feels natural. For collectors, this is the edition we actually reach for. Also works as a bridge into Lynch’s other sound-worlds without needing every soundtrack.
Available online now or in our Melbourne shop, an easy pick for any Various fan.
