Description

"Cheap Trick at Budokan: The Complete Concert" is a fascinating piece of rock history that captures the essence of a band at the peak of their powers. Released in 1998, this album is an expanded version of the original "Cheap Trick at Budokan" live album that came out in 1978. The original release was a monumental success, catapulting Cheap Trick into international stardom, particularly in Japan where they were received with Beatlemania-like fervor.

The "Complete Concert" version includes the entire performance from that iconic April 1978 night at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, offering fans a more comprehensive glimpse into the concert that defined Cheap Trick's career. This release not only showcases the band's raw and energetic live presence but also highlights their musical versatility and charisma.

One of the standout aspects of this album is the palpable energy and connection between the band and the audience. Tracks like "I Want You to Want Me" and "Surrender" are electrifying, with the crowd's enthusiasm audibly pushing the band to new heights. These performances are often cited as definitive live versions, surpassing even the studio recordings in intensity and impact.

The production of the album is another highlight. The sound quality of "At Budokan: The Complete Concert" is remarkably clear and well-balanced, allowing each instrument to shine without overshadowing the others. This is particularly noteworthy given the challenges of live recording, especially in the pre-digital era.

Critically, the album was well-received upon its release. Reviewers praised it for capturing the essence of a Cheap Trick live show, noting that it felt like being in the audience. The expanded
