1984 was the breakthrough year for INXS, their album ‘The Swing’ has spent five weeks at #1 in Australia, and the band had started to make real inroads in the USA and Europe thanks to the Nile Rodgers produced single ‘Original Sin’. To celebrate ‘The Swing’ selling 250,000 copies in Australia, the band released ‘DEKADANCE’, a remix collection available only on cassette with six different covers, one for each band member. With the bands’ music back in vogue once more, September 6th sees the long awaited return of the seminal seven track remix collection with its first ever official vinyl release. (250 x 12” promos were made at the time with now change hands for hundred of dollars), marking the 35th anniversary of The Swing. Dekadance features six extended & re-mixed versions of songs from “THE SWING” album. These six songs are “ORIGINAL SIN”, “I SEND A MESSAGE” & “BURN FOR YOU” – all Nick Launay re-mixed versions & all released as twelve inch singles previously. “DANCING ON THE JETTY”, which is the re-mixed version released as the albums fourth single. Then there’s two rare extended/re-mixed versions of “LOVE IS (WHAT I SAY)” & “MELTING IN THE SUN”. As a bonus to all this, there is a seventh song included on the LP. The cover of the Nancy Sinatra / Lee Hazlewood duet “JACKSON” – performed by the band together with QED’s Jenny Morris duetting with Michael Hutchence on vocals. All of these lovely goodies are cut to a heavyweight 180-gram vinyl LP, featuring artwork replicated from the ultra-rare 12 Dekadance promo gifted to Australian Radio stations in 1984.
"Dekadance is the title of two different collections of remixes by Australian rock group INXS: a 1983 four-track 12" and cassette EP released in the United States of songs from Shabooh Shoobah; and a 1985 seven-track cassette released in Australia of songs from The Swing. The latter included a cover version of "Jackson" as a duet by INXS' Michael Hutchence with Jenny Morris, their backing singer. This compilation peaked at No. 2 on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart in April 1985. The Australian cassette version of Dekadance features remixes from The Swing, and was released in six different versions. Each had a different sleeve, one for each member of the band, which were sourced from the band photo on the cover of The Swing. In following the general theme of the release, the photos themselves were "remixed" by the use of halftone (or similar) printing. Each image wraps completely around the package and is difficult to identify unless the package is dismantled and opened flat. Instead of the usual plastic hinged case, the packaging was a cardboard box that featured a flip-top opening, similar to that of a cigarette packet." - Wikipedia
