Description
A bleary 2 a.m. crowd calms as matchlights flicker across the field. Leonard Cohen’s Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970 (2LP) captures that unlikely hush, his voice steady and close while a restless festival surrenders to story. The way he leans into Bird on the Wire has a fragile spine, then the spoken lull before So Long, Marianne lands like a gentle reset. When he asks for lights before Suzanne, you can almost feel the temperature drop.
This cut puts the set in proper scale, with more space around the guitar and harmonies so the low end sits deeper without smothering the room. Imaging is clearer too, which helps when the crowd rises and recedes between songs. If you prefer to order from home, you can buy Leonard Cohen records online with us.
It belongs on the shelf next to Dylan’s early 70s live documents, a quiet foil that wins by patience rather than volume. The Partisan is a highlight here, its chant building from a near whisper into something communal. We’ve played a lot of Cohen in our Preston listening room, and this is the one that makes people stop browsing and just stand still. For a festival tape, it’s surprisingly intimate, and the 2LP spread lets it breathe. Add it to your collection today, available online or in our Melbourne record store.
