Description
Cut at Columbia’s 30th Street Studio in 1959, Kind of Blue captures Miles Davis’s modal pivot with a room sound you can almost map. On So What, Paul Chambers’ two-note bass prompt opens the door and the horns glide in, cool and unhurried. Freddie Freeloader swaps in Wynton Kelly for a blues that swings a shade earthier. Blue in Green still hushes a room; Bill Evans’ voicings feel suspended in midair.
This LP pressing gives more space around the horns, and the low end sits deeper. Cymbals decay cleanly, so Jimmy Cobb’s ride feels like a heartbeat rather than a hiss. In Melbourne, it’s the copy you reach for to reset your ears and your pace.
File it next to late-50s modal jazz and the early-60s Blue Note hard bop era; the playing is conversational, not showy, and the tunes invite you in. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Miles Davis records online with us. There’s enduring magic here without fuss, just five players listening hard and leaving room. Still essential after countless plays, and somehow new each time you cue up So What again. Coltrane’s tenor sounds patient and probing, never hurried.
Order online now or swing past our Preston shop to pick it up.
